Pitch In

A lazy Monday with the family on the sand. The weather was perfect. Since we got there early, there wasn't a lot of foot traffic. I was able to walk around the beach and take pictures of things that were interesting and things that were just appalling. Although it was a partly cloudy day, the sun managed to break through at mid-morning  Even at noon, there were still only about 30 families on the beach. We posted up at a picnic table and put down our blankets just where grass became sand.

Just in the immediate area I picked up and discarded 4 empty water bottles and 2 empty Capri suns. As I walked the shore, I discovered it was littered with everything from food packaging to beer bottles, and even many abandoned sandals  I even found the top panel of what I think was a jet ski. The way that people totally disregarded nature was disturbing. There was a tube designated to discard fishing line, except it was stuffed with trash.

The park does not have trash cans available to the public. This means that you are responsible for your own trash. How hard is it to bring a bag and take your shit with you? It's plain lazy. It's also disrespectful to the environment. For the State to designate a pristine piece of beach for us to enjoy with our kids, the least we can do pick up after ourselves. They supply us with grills and a store to buy or rent anything we want. Let's keep the sand clean. It's supposed to be a recreation area, not a landfill.
