The Music in My Mind

Music has always been a constant in my life. The question is, what has music taught me, if anything.

The Beatles once told me, "All you need is love" I guess they didn't have bills. The truth is all you need is an unlimited bank account, a million hours in a day, and the patience of a saint. In the end love is not about what you do, but what you "don't do" You don't lie, you don't cheat, and you don't ever give up.

Is it true that "Girls just wanna have fun" If I gauge that statement by my daughter, then yes. She always complains about being board. She always wants to go out, and she always wants to spend time with her friends. I don't know if fun is meant to be had. I can't think of anything fun I've done lately. Everything involves spending money, or driving far away. When you get there, your driving around for parking or paying a bunch at a lot. Once the money runs out, guess what, so does the fun. I enjoy a lot of simple things, such as writing, listening to music, and thrift shopping. These things may not be fun for you, but they keep me grounded and sane.

"Ever fallen in love?" In love with someone you shouldn't have fallen in love with, is how the song goes. I guess everyone does. No matter who you are, you always have doubts when you fall in love. Whether you don't think this person will love you back. You may get resistance from your family and friends. Nothing is meant to be. You have to work for it. You have to beat the odds to make it happen. So yeah I think everyone falls in love with someone they shouldn't have fallen in love with in some way or another.

Louis Armstrong was a great musician and singer, but he was wrong. He assured me that "It's a wonderful world" How wonderful can a world be full of violence, abuse, brutality, tyranny, and just plain hate. I always try to the see the good in everyone, but at the end of the day nobody cares about anyone but themselves. This self righteous mentality is what keeps this world at the mercy of it's tormentors. People that commit atrocities always try to blame it one their beliefs or there environment. Bullshit, at the end of the day, they did it because for some strange reason it made them feel good. They may have convinced themselves that they did it for the greater good or to appease the Gods, they did it so they could see their face all over the internet and hear their name all over the news. There is nothing wonderful about that.

In the song "Trouble Man" Marvin Gaye proclaims "There's only three things that's for sure - taxes, death, and trouble" Truer words have never been spoken or sang. You will never not pay taxes, you will continue to pay taxes after you are dead and gone. Death is certain and inevitable. You can prolong your life but sooner or later you will bite the proverbial bullet. you know what that is, right. Trouble with a capital T. No matter how much you try to do the right thing, trouble will find you and make you it's bitch. It only takes a split second for trouble to rear it's ugly head. The most level headed people have ended up in prison for murder because trouble found out where they were hiding and took away their sense of decency for the precise amount of time it took them to fuck up their whole life.
