I want to run again

My favorite line in Forrest Gump is "Now you wouldn't believe me if I told you, but I could run like the wind blows. From that day on, if I was ever going somewhere, I was running!". If you have known me for over a year, you may know that I took up running a little over a year ago. I went from being completely inactive to running 6 plus miles. Along the way I lost about 65 lbs. On Thanksgiving Day I ran a 10K. It was a great day for me. Soon after winter set in, and my running began to wane.

It's the end of the world as we know it

If the world were to end tomorrow, would you be ready? What does being ready actually mean? What if you had 5 months before the world ended? Would you be ready then? For some people being ready means many different things. Some are looking for spiritual enlightenment. Some want to make amends with their enemies. Others wanna tell people off that they never had the courage to. Would you take that vacation you never did because you couldn't afford it? Maybe you would play that big hand in Vegas or bet it all on black?

Antiquing is my new best friend.

Today was thrift shop day for the Mrs and I. We got out early this morning. I knew about a thrift store and pawn shop in our neighborhood. Neither of us had been to either one. The first place was a thrift store on Hamilton Street in Hyattsville. It was totally disorganized. There was crap all over the place. Nothing was priced. The two persons in the shop never even acknowledged us. They did have a few cool things. What caught my eye the most was a very old sewing machine and some cast iron wall hangings. The hangings were shaped like a WWII plane and some golfers. Other then that I did see a cool lamp and the examination table. It was a butte. It had turquoise vinyl with drawers below. It had stirrups. I've sat on examination tables that weren't a nice as this one. Although I really liked it, I had to pass. First of all. Where would I keep it? Secondly. Who knows what this guy would've wanted for it.

Are you ready for your funeral?

Death is a part of life. Everyone, if they're lucky, will end up with a tag on their toe. Nobody ever wants to die. At least not too soon. I for one, want to see my daughter grow up. I also want to bury my parents. No one should have to bury their children. I however plan to live into the ripe old age of my 60's. I know that's exactly not aiming high. I'm 31 now, so in next 30 years I want accomplish something great and maybe play with my grandchildren. When I die I want to predetermine everything that will happen at my funeral. I even want to pick out my suit and what kind of flowers will be on my casket. I will choose the people that will give my eulogy. I want my death to be a party not a "funeral"

My Perfect Sunday

My life divided in two realms. My family and my job. Everything I do on a daily basis is to appease either side. I work 8 hours 7 days a weeks. The rest of my time is dedicated to my wife and daughter or to my parents. That means I don't get much time for myself. Not to mention the 2 hours a day I spend on the highway. Other then that I write and surf the web. I seldom get to treat myself. Today turned out to be the perfect day for me.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

I just finished watching the Denzel Washington movie called John Q. As old as it is neither my wife or I had ever seen it. It was very emotional to watch. I guess for it was especially for me because like the main character, I am a working father that would do anything for my family. When John Q was saying goodbye to his son, he gave him life advice. At one point he tells him to make as much money he can, even if he has to sell out. He tells him that having money is the most important thing in life. Afterwards he tells him not to do wrong or run with the wrong crowd. I think that was a bit contradictory.

This one's for all my moms.

Good fortune is a true blessing. Being alive. Having a great family. The thing I appreciate the most is still having my parents around. I've been one of the lucky ones that was raised by both my parents. They have taught me how to be a better father and husband. Today we in the United States celebrate our mothers. I want to celebrate and honor some of the mothers in my life.

What did you experience today?

We never know what tomorrow may hold. You can make all the plans in the world, but that doesn't mean you will be around to fulfill them. Depending on who you ask, they may say, "only God knows". Some people live for tomorrow, and some live for today. There are even some that live in the past. In the past 24 hours there have been deaths, births, accidents, winners, and losers all over this planet. What did you see today? What did you do? This is what I learned and experienced.
